History of Eldorado
Opened in 1973 with a paltry 210 rooms, the Eldorado is one of the standard bearers in Reno gaming hotelerie. It has expanded to 800+ rooms and formed a partnership with Circus Circus (since been absorbed by MGM which absorbed Steve Wynn's Mirage/Bellagio/Treasure Island/Golden Nugget operation).
How are the rooms at Eldorado?
The digs are pretty basic, except for the suites (jacuzzi, penthouse and otherwise). Those come with those fancy tvs that rise up out of a cabnet at the base of the bed, like the Osbournes had. Those are cool. The jaccuzi's are given more room than most we have seen. Many places we have visited have just crammed the tub in, so this is a nice change. The addition of trees around it is also a nice touch.
However, for the lower rollers, the basic and mid level rooms do not offer more than a place to rest between table hopping.
What restaurants are at Eldorado?
You will not go hungry at the Eldorado. If you have hankerin' for surf and turf, you can hit up Roxy's, The Prime Rib Grill (carved to order), or The Seafood Buffet.
If all you are after is food in mass quantities, then the Chef's Buffet is for you.
Italian? La Strada is rated one of the top 10 Italian restaurants in the nation, but we found the food unsatisfactory. Take a pass on the homemade pasta (mushy) and if you are one of those dessert snobs who prefers vanilla bean seeds floating in the creme brulee, then ah, move along. There is nothing to see here.
UPstairs, The Brew Brothers offers up eight custom microbrews and some nibbles.
Tivoli Gardens, the resident 24-hour coffee shop sits under a fake tree canopy (oddly cozy) and smells of the Chinese fare it offers along side the standards.
There is also the Golden Fortune, if you are looking for fancier Asian delights.
For those of you in between upswings, Choices can serve you up a $2.99 ham and eggs special and other choice treats.
Und lastlym you can pick up some coffee and awesome 'looking' desserts (we defer judgement until partaking) at Eldorado Coffee Company.
Where is Eldorado Located?
Catty-corner to Harrah's, right next to the Legacy.
Exclusive Tips for Eldorado:
BuBinga for dancing; it's not quite Badabing, but it will do!
Eldorado has a fountain they are pretty proud of, too. It stand 2 stories high and features some artist from Louisiana. It's not bad, really and gives folks a good landmark for wandering the skyways between the Legacy and Circus Circus.
The service here is top notch. Everyone is friendly in that 'How ya doin' kinda way. A nice down-home contrast from the 'At your service' Vegas style.
Be sure to get Sam as your shuttle driver to/from the airport; He is quite the treat. And pop him a $20 if you are feeling flush, just 'cause you can.

as far as downtown reno goes, the eldorado is by far the nicest place there. its got a lot of charm, good food, good service, great dealers in the pit and the rooms are spacious and dirt cheap - at least compared to vegas prices. eldorado is a go.
