History of Atlantis Casino Resort Spa
Virtually grown out of the ground over 20+ years, the Atlantis (opened 1996) has its antecedents a string of smaller motels and hotels, shedding its skin every 10 years from the Golden Road Motor Hotel to a Quality Inn to a Clarion Hotel and ev entually the $120 Million dollar Atlantis. Since its opening, Atlantis has continually re-invested in the property, refurbishing tower suites and rooms in 2002 and the addition of one of the best poker rooms in Reno and a new Spa in 2003.
How are the rooms at Atlantis Casino Resort Spa?
If you don't mind the sea-theme of the rooms, Atlantis offers up a wide range of choices for rooms. From the motel style option to the butler-attended players suites. Of course, you have to be someone special just to get the option of booking the penthouse, but the one tier-down Concierge Tower rooms are available to all for about 2 bills. No butler, but you get an in-room coffee maker and access to the 'Concierge Lounge', where you can enjoy your included continental breakfast and the big screen tv.
Atlantis Reno has four distinct hotel offerings, Concierge Tower (spiffy), Luxury Tower, Atrium Tower, Royal Dolphin (nice) and the Motorbridge (cheap), which have many diverse room offerings:
Grand Penthouse (Concierge Tower) - the top tier of Atlantis' offerings feature flat screen TV's, jacuzzi spa with gorgeous view, wet bars, gold bathroom fixtures, king size beds and butler service. These are some of the best rooms in Reno.
Concierge Tower Standard - small rooms with bamboo furniture and very busy room decorations. No flat panel tvs yet.
Royal Dolphin Standard - these are very pretty rooms featuring dark cherry wood furniture, headboards and armoires. These are the ones you want if you don't have the loot for the penthouse suites.
Atrium Suites - atrium suites come in two flavors, Luxury and Spa Suite... request the Spa Suites when making a reservation, they're much larger and the spa addition is the deal winner.
Luxury Tower - these also come in two sizes, Luxury and Spa, again get the spa if you can.
Motorlodge the motorlodge at Atlantis is a 2 floor drive up motel style building. Rooms are small, but extremely affordable - $45-60 bucks a night.
What restaurants are at Atlantis Casino Resort Spa?
Atlantis Casino in Reno is known for having a great selection of food, here's a sampling of their offerings:
Toucan Charlie's Buffet is decent and very affordable ($23 bucks for two people - take that Vegas!). Cafe Alfresco for pizza, Atlantis Seafood Steakhouse for reasonably priced surf and turf, MonteVigna Italian Ristorante and Lounge for Italian specialties and an excellent wine list, Purple Parrot is Atlantis' 24/7 coffee shop, Blue Lagoon for $1 Margaritas. The newly opened (2003) Sushi Bar on the Sky Terrace has "50 different types of sushi and eight brands of sake" to choose from. Right nearby is the Atlantis' Oyster Bar - a veritable orgy and slurpfest of the ocean's aprodesiacs. The Sky Terrace also has a grip of slot machines nearby, but don't bother busting out a cig while plunking quarters into it - it's non-smoking.

Atlantic Casino Resort and Spal is located in central Reno, just west of the airport and south of the Peppermill. Atlantis is the southernmost "big" joint on Virginia Street Strip... definitely worth the travel time to check it out.
