History of Horizon
Before Horizon saw the light of day, it was the famed Sahara Tahoe (1965-1983) - home to the one and only Elvis Presley in Lake Tahoe. Elvis played five runs at the Sahara Tahoe - 98 performances in total from 1971-1976. The hotel features an "Elvis" suite, which is the same room that the King stayed in while performing there. Contact the hotel if you would like to stay in the famed Elvis suite.
How are the rooms at Horizon?
The Elvis suite is all decked out in white, with a jacuzzi tub, pool table and a pretty nice view. It's not the most comfortable looking place, with the extreme white-ness, but hey, if it was good enough for The King, then it is good enough for us.
As for the other standard rooms, there is nothing that stands out beyond your basic hotel room. The 'Dignitary Suites' are your standard fare for suites, with more space and a hair dryer with a small apartment feel.
What restaurants are at Horizon?
The choices are limited if you are eating on premises. A buffet (Town Square Buffet), Josh's for fine dining, and the Four Seasons Restaurant for 24-hour dining.
Starbucks is on premises which is nice 'cause the Horizon house coffee is not great. For an adult beverage, Aspen Lounge serves up cocktails and live music (on the weekends).
Room service is offered 24 hours a day, which is cool. Nothing special or exciting on the menu and the food is passable.
Where is Horizon Located?
End of the line, folks. Last resort at the end of the row of Casinos.
Exclusive Tips for Horizon:
Horizon boasts 'We are now unwired! As a new amenity for our guests, we now offer Wi-Fi wireless internet access in every room in the Alpine Tower, the hotel lobby and Starbucks.'
The webmaster did not catch this little nug. Nevertheless, wireless access is awesome! For free would be even better.
Oh yeah, they also have the largest pool in South Tahoe. I know after driving around the lake, things can looks smaller, but this is redonkculous. I've seen bigger pools in my high school friends' parent's Bel Air mansions' backyards for fuck's sake.
And lastly, if you are looking for service and some smiles, then don't come here. And don't bother trying to crack jokes to Marc at check-in. He is not into it.

i love tahoe. don't love horizon. they should renamed the joint 'frump taj mahal'
